care, calls for a one-stop centre
that offers patient-centred,
continuing and promotive
healthcare services.

Why is primary care important?
a) Rise in chronic disease
Malaysia has seen an alarming increase in the number
of people suffering from chronic diseases such as
obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases and
depression
b) Ageing Population
Currently there are 3 million senior citizens in Malaysia
and the number is rising. Their healthcare needs have
to be met.
c) Rising cancer rate
1 in 4 adult Malaysians suffers from cancer in their
lifetime. Early detection and intervention improve
survival and quality of life.
Why a one-stop centre?
A building that provides patient-centred, accessible
and quality primary care services is critical to enable
members of the public to enjoy the following:
a) Acute, chronic and continuity of care is provided in
an integrated manner
b) Health promotion and prevention in serious cases
such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, genetic
disorders and mental health problems
c) Coordination of care made easier within the UMMC
structure that will enable different health care
providers to function as a single unit
d) Rehabilitative services provided for patients suffering
from stroke, osteoarthritis and other disabilities.
