treatment and spiritual intervention under the same
roof, as a one-stop centre for drug addiction treatment.
This project is capable of helping the government meet
the target of increasing the coverage of methadone
treatment to 25,000 opioid addicts by the end of 2011
and a drug free nation by 2015. The pilot project started,
in Ar-Rahman mosque (at the fringe of University of
Malaya).
2. Mobile 1 Malaysia AMT Program
There has been a change in the pattern of substance
use shifting from the metropolitan to suburban/rural
areas. AMT clinics located mainly in the main city are
generally inaccessible to opioid addicts in the affected
areas. There is a critical need for AMT mobile services,
capable of providing access to this marginalized group
in suburban/rural areas. The mobile community service
is one of the solutions in addressing this issue. UMCAS
plans to initiate the pilot project called the “Mobile 1
Malaysia AMT Program” in the suburban areas of Klang
Valley.

Fund are needed to acquire fully equipped ambulances
with mobile teams in order to ensure the success of the
program.
